“By then we came into Buchenwald, and we stayed outside of Buchenwald and if you ever see a gruesome, a terrible scene. It was winter, gray, everything covered with snow and you see a big patch of light. That was the camp which was well lit. Then we came close and saw the barbed wire and you see small groups of people walking. You can see the guards, you can hear the dogs howling. If you’ve ever seen, like maybe you thought of Siberia, this was worse. You see the well lit camp with the barbed wire, small groups marching with the guards around them and dogs howling, we didn’t know what to expect.”
