The Nazis were masters at modern propaganda, disseminating false information through mass media to sway public opinion. The official Nazi newspaper Der Völkischer Beobachter (The People’s Observer) and the tabloid Der Stürmer (The Attacker) consistently preached hatred of Jews and blamed them for all of Germany’s problems.

One of their often-repeated slogans was “Die Juden sind unser Unglück” (“The Jews are our misfortune”).  Anti-Jewish pamphlets and textbooks were distributed to schools and workplaces.  The Nazis also produced films to spread their anti-Jewish propaganda throughout Germany.  In every one of these, the Nazis tried to make the Jews seem fundamentally different from other Germans. The propaganda tactics worked and many Germans believed that Jews belonged to an inferior, alien race.
