Egon Ledec was born in 1889 in the town of Kostelec nad Orlici. Ledec was the assistant concertmaster of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. In early 1942, he was deported by the Nazis to the Theresienstadt ghetto in Czechoslovakia. Ledec took part in musical activities in the camp, and even formed a quartet. The young artist and poet Peter Kien (1919-1944) drew several pictures of Ledec that have survived. During the final transports from Theresienstadt in late 1944, Ledec, Kien, and many other composers and artists were transported to Auschwitz and killed.
