Mark A. Rothman
Executive Director
MOREMark Rothman is currently in his 3rd year as Executive Director of the Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust, one of the oldest such institutions in the country. In addition to managing the Museum’s daily operations, Mark plays a critical role in all aspects of the Museum’s project to construct a new and permanent home for the Museum, which should open in summer 2010. Mark earned a Bachelor's degree from Columbia University and a Master of Fine Arts degree from USC's School of Cinema-Television. He founded a video company, Ness Productions -- named for the Hebrew word for miracle -- and produced educational and corporate videos and documentaries. His work included "The Magic Glasses," a short film about children with disabilities, "Children of the Dream," about Ethiopian-Israeli teenagers who visited Los Angeles schools during the 1992 riots, and a pilot project creating biographies of September 11 victims. Mark's professional interest in Holocaust history began when he worked in Israel on a war crimes trial and continued when he interviewed dozens of survivors for the video database compiled by the Steven Spielberg-inspired Shoah Foundation for Visual History. Prior to joining the Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust he served as Holocaust Services Advocate at Bet Tzedek Legal Services, helping survivors in their struggles to obtain reparations and restitution. Mark has held numerous community leadership positions with organizations that include the Center for Nonprofit Management, the Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs, and B’Nai-David Judea Congregation. He is married, has three boys, and enjoys rowing and playing softball.
