Weekend Volunteers Wanted!

Saturdays and Sundays 12-4pm

Our volunteers will help at the front reception desk with a variety of duties. This volunteer will be reliable, friendly, professional, and dedicated to providing our visitors with a world-class experience in their visit to the Museum.

The job responsibilities include:     

-stationed behind the front desk
-check out/check in audio guides to/from individuals and groups
-general receptionist duties
            -answer phones regarding directions, hours, parking, etc.
            -hand out any printed materials visitors need/want
-assist with donations and membership sales
- assist with sales at gift shop (located behind reception desk)
-be the "face of the Museum"- patient, welcoming, friendly, accessible person for visitors to be comfortable approaching with questions
-preferably someone familiar with the greater Los Angeles area to help with directions to the Museum from people calling from all over Southern California


Training will be provided-We need people for either day or both!

Docent Opportunities Available!

 

We are looking for volunteer docents to lead tours for our Museum. Docents must be enthusiastic, willing to learn, and have an interest in working with people, especially students. All docents must participate in the Museum's Docent Training Program which begins September 2012.

Whether you are a 16-year-old student, or an 80-year-old Holocaust Survivor, the Museum has many interesting projects to fill your available volunteer hours!

We are looking for:

  • Volunteers to assist us with our daily operations. Opportunities are available in the areas of Education, Archives, and Administration.
  • Docents to lead tours of the new Museum exhibits and collection during the school year.
  • Holocaust Survivors who would like to speak to our tour groups about their own experiences.

Spring and Summer Internships

 

Archival Intern

The Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust seeks a qualified and committed intern to assist with the processing of our expanding Archival Collections. Archives Interns will be able to interact with historical objects and documents. The LAMH Archives Intern duties may include, but are not limited to, digitizing archival collections, cataloging documents and artifacts, and translating documents and letters.

The Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust has also completed re-organization and cataloging of the Library in accordance to the Library of Congress standards. Archives Interns may also work with the Archivist/Historian in cataloging its Special Collections and may assist in creating a searchable database for the library. Applicants with a computer science background and programming skills are highly encouraged to apply.

Qualifications: Interested interns should have or be working toward a degree in History, languages (particularly German, Yiddish, Hebrew), Museum Studies and/or Computer Science. A basic understanding of Holocaust History and Jewish History is preferred. Knowledge and experience in programming of databases for archives preferred. Applicants with language skills in German, Yiddish and a computer science background are highly encouraged to apply.

Commitment: Minimum two days per week.

Research and Curatorial Intern

The Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust is looking for a qualified and committed intern to assist with organizing, describing, and designing historical images, documents, and objects throughout the museum. The Research and Curatorial Intern will work closely with the Archivist/Historian and the Content Design Researcher.

Qualifications: Interested interns should have or be working toward a degree in history, languages (particularly German, Yiddish),  or museum studies. A basic understanding of Holocaust History and Jewish History is preferred. Applicants with a strong research background and organizational skills are highly encouraged to apply. Applicants with an aesthetic eye and proficient with Photoshop is a strong plus.

Commitment: Minimum two days per week.
