Antisemitism and Mideast Governments Today

A Talk by David Andrew Weinberg, Ph.D.

Co-sponsored by the Anti-Defamation League

Antisemitic indoctrination played a major role in how Nazi Germany mobilized the general public for genocide against the Jewish people. Unfortunately, many governments in the Middle East still allow, enable, or even generate these sorts of antisemitic messages today, including in educational materials for schoolchildren or in state-controlled media outlets. Our ADL speaker will share with us striking examples of these trends from Arabic- and Persian-language materials that the organization has been documenting, exposing, and raising with government officials. He will also share with us some examples of other, more encouraging trends from the region, as well as several recommendations for positive action.
David Andrew Weinberg, Ph.D. is the Anti-Defamation League’s Washington Director for International Affairs, where he serves as the organization's main point of contact on foreign affairs issues for Congress, the Administration, and foreign embassies. He is also the organization's lead analyst on government-enabled antisemitic incitement in the Middle East. Prior to joining ADL, Dr. Weinberg worked on Gulf issues as a Senior Fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies and as a Professional Staff Member on Mideast issues at the House Committee on Foreign Affairs. In this capacity, he served on a team of advisors to the late Rep. Tom Lantos, the only Holocaust survivor to serve in the U.S. Congress. David grew up in Los Angeles and holds political science degrees from UC Berkeley and MIT.
