SUMMARY:Teacher Development Opportunities-Facing History and Ourselves
DESCRIPTION:Upcoming Teacher Professional Development Opportunities at the Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust: Monday, February 11, 2013 5:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m. Facing History and Ourselves After the Holocaust: Re-establishing a Sense of Belonging The end of World War II meant the beginning of a new life for survivors, but it also opened up difficult questions. How does someone recreate themselves and their place in a new community after trauma? This workshop will explore the complexities and challenges individuals faced in Germany, England, and the United States to start a new life. In studying this history, we will explore memoirs and primary source documents and connect the stories of the Holocaust with the realities of the immigration experience today, many of whom have also been forced to relocate after experiencing trauma. Light dinner will be provided. To register for this free workshop, click HERE For a map view of the location, click HERE During this workshop Dr. Beth Cohen will introduce her research and book, Case Closed: Holocaust Survivors in Postwar America. We will also explore two Facing History and Ourselves resources, Into the Arms of Strangers: Stories of the Kindertransport by Mark Jonathan Harris and Jealous of the Birds by former Facing History student Jordan Bahat. The film is about Holocaust survivors and their decision to remain in Germany after the war. Please feel free to contact Facing History and Ourselves if you have any questions at: Dan_Alba@facing.org or (626) 590-3500.
