Messengers of Memory:

Survivors Empowering Students

This newly curated exhibit highlights 20 years of prize-winning prose, poetry, art, and film representing more than 100,000 middle and high school participants in the Holocaust Art and Writing contest sponsored by The 1939 Society and Chapman University's Rodgers Center for Holocaust Education.

The annual contest challenges young people to create meaning from memory through their engagement with Holocaust survivor and witness testimony. Initially regional in its outreach, the contest has expanded to become national and international with schools throughout the United States and eight countries now participating, including Israel, Germany, Poland, and South Africa.
