By remembering a child who perished in the Holocaust, a Bar/Bat Mitzvah student experiences the transmission of Jewish memory and takes on a meaningful role in perpetuating it.

We will match the student with a child who perished in the Holocaust. On request, we will try to pair the student with a child who shares a name or ancestral town with the Bar/Bat Mitzvah student. We will provide basic information about the child; we encourage the student and family to further research the child.

The student takes on the responsibility of remembering the child by, for example:

- keeping the child in mind during his/her own study

- speaking about the child from the bimah during the Bar/Bat mitzvah, such as during a d'var Torah or speech

- doing mitzvot in the name of the child whose memory he or she is carrying

- undertaking future study in the name of the child
